Your cheek swab sample will be tested for Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) genetic markers, ABO and Rhesus blood group and a common, flu-like virus called Cytomegalovirus (CMV). This data will be used to add you to our stem cell panel along with your details. This compares to a 72% chance for patients from a British, Irish, or Northern European ethnic background. The Welsh Bone Marrow Donor registry is committed to addressing this inequality by increasing the age range that donors of Black, Asian, mixed heritage and minority ethnic backgrounds can register
