Patients from Black, Asian, mixed heritage and minority ethnic background have on average only a 37% chance of finding the optimal matched adult unrelated donor on global stem cell panels. This compares to a 72% chance for patients from a British, Irish, or Northern European ethnic background. The Welsh Bone Marrow Donor registry is committed to addressing this inequality by increasing the age range that donors of Black, Asian, mixed heritage and minority ethnic backgrounds can register onto the Welsh stem cell donor panel.
